Chénas AOC, Domaine du Penlois
Chénas is one of the smallest and rarest Beaujolais Crus (high quality regions). Name Chénas comes from the French name chêne (oak). In the past, there were oaks on the hillsides in Chénas, but the kingPhillip V ordered the trees to be cut down and vines planted.
Chénas was the favorite wine of French King Louis XIII, according to some sources the only wine he consumed.
